David Conklin was born on July 18, 1760 in a part of Frederick County, Virginia that is now Jefferson County, West Virginia. His father was Jacob Conklin. Ath the time of the 1810 census, there was a David Conklin household in Frederick County, Virginia. The household consisted of a man and a woman over 45 and a girl and a boy under 10. They enslaved one person. The Farmer's Repository of April 17, 1812 listed David Conklin as having unclaimed letters at the post office in Charlestown, Virginia, on the March 31, 1812. In 1822 Elizabeth F. Wilson bought land from David Conklin in Jefferson County. In 1830 the David Conklin household in Jefferson County, Virginia consisted of a man and a woman between 70 and 79 and a girl between 15 and 19. They enslaved a boy under 10. The next household was the Mary Conklin household. There was also a David Conklin who was an early settler of Champaign County, Ohio. The first house in Urbana Township was built by David Conklin.
